I made the design moves I did because I like the colors pink and yellow and I think they look nice together and make the text standout. I also included pictures of myself because it is a nice way of showing who I am and what sort of things I like without having to write paragraphs about myself.  I really like my logo because it plays on my name and is kind of cute. I used a picture of the Philadelphia skyline because that is where I live. An employer might hire me based on my logo it shows I am creative. I also think it is a clever and catchy way for people to remember my name.

Stacey Naughton’s Fav Freelacer

http://www.kennyburns.com/

After going on the Society of Professional Journalists and looking at numerous freelance journalists bio’s and not finding their websites, I realized how important it is to have my own. It was very frusterating coming up empty handed on numerous journalists. I could only imagine how a company would feel looking for the perfect freelancer. I ended up liking the first one I looked at the best. Not only is Kenny Burns very organized, he gives a brief bio, numerous examples of the work he has done, and multiple ways to get in touch with him if a person would like to use for work. He also has a link to his blog, which is not updated too often. I like that the header remains the same; it keeps the website united throughout.

Orange You Glad? -Stacey Naughton’s Double Truck

leave a comment »

Project Brief: The purpose of this project was to create a double truck that somehow incorporated my magazine cover. I believe I have done this by taking my cover girl and creating a layout and story about her. The front cover talks about how a diet changed Shelby Naughton’s life and the inside article is about her struggling with being overweight and how a diet she created changed her life.

My audience for this article is college-aged students looking for an easy way to stay fit and healthy. Most young adults I know don’t eat as healthy as they should, so I thought an article that talks about a diet that uses fruit in every recipe would be interesting and appealing. The article talks about a book that Shelby created that has easy recipes to make. Most college-aged kid’s ears perk up when they hear the word easy so that would also catch their eye.  My choice of using Shelby’s picture goes along with using her picture on the cover. A person cannot doubt that this article is about the cover girl. The reader will see this slim girl and read the subhead saying she lost six pant sizes. This petite girl doesn’t even look like she’s over 100 pounds, let alone could she have ever been overweight. The reader will be intrigued and want to read more.

I believe my design reflects CRAP by using monochromatic colors. The oranges in the same color family match each other and the orange in the picture for repetition. I have one bold font with a script font underneath for contrast. I think the headline and subhead are fun to read and really make a person curious about what the article is about.

This is a fictional article so I did not have much research to do. I just thought that using the word ‘orange’ instead of ‘aren’t you’ was a cute and clever way to draw the reader in. My sister does enjoy cooking recipes with fruit in them though and often cooks them for my family and friends. Since it is summer not many people like cooking since it is too hot out which is why I wanted to do an article about fruit because in many recipes fruit does not even have to be cooked.

I do not think this would be an offensive article because it is about a young girl telling her story and how she wants to help change people lives. Weight-loss is a sensitive subject, but since the story is about a girl who lost a tremendous amount of weight she would more than likely like to brag and share her success story. I want people to read this story and be inspired.

Stacey’s Fav Mag Cover

This is my favorite magazine cover because these are two of my favorite people. I love watching Oprah and Ellen when I have time because Oprah shares serious stories that are sometimes newsworthy and she usually offers a personal point of view on the story. Ellen is very funny and shares funny videos and stories. She, like Oprah, helps people in need.  I think this magazine cover shows Ellen and Oprah’s funny and glamourous sides in one photo. They are both dressed in ways they are known for, but with holiday spirit. This cover says this magazine issue is about the holidays. I also like this magazine cover because Oprah is usually on the cover of her magazine by herself and it’s nice to see her change things up a little by featuring another strong, corporate woman like herself.

The magazine I will create for class is going to be entitled “Healthy Appetite” and will be about healthy eating and living.

An Interesting Infographic-Stacey Naughton

leave a comment »

I like this infographic because it not only gives what is included in the budget, people can scroll over the rectangles and discover how much money is going into the program in 2011 compared to 2010.  The colors of the rectangles signify by what percentage of change that category has gone through in a year. If a person is not very politcally literate and has a difficult time figuring out percentages and numbers this would be a great infographic to use. The New York Times did a great job making the rectangles to represent all the different ways the government will be spending money, and clearly explains how each category has changed.
