Josh McAdams’ Website Critique

I found a website for journalist Mridu Khullar: http://www.mridukhullar.com/

I like Mridu’s website because it is very basic but still stylish!  She uses calm colors and lays out the website in an easy to understand and navigate way.  If one was interested in Mridu, they can read a brief introduction to her on the welcoming at the home page but they could also head over to a more in depth bio/about me page.  She links to her blog which seems to be updated almost daily, and has a section dedicated to displaying her feature stories and organizing them by which client had published them.  My favorite part about the website is not the portfolio, contact or search portions, its the For Writers section.  In this section she links to articles giving advice to others who may be a freelancer as she once was.  She also gives advice, tips, and techniques on writing and mistakes people regularly made.  All around this is a well-done website!

Joshua McAdams’ Fav Magazine Cover & Mag name

I really love this magazine cover, it looks very pleasing to the eye and I feel manages to capture and use white/grey space in new and better ways then usual.  I love the contrast from the bottom of the cover to the top, how the background fades to white and the main character of the game Assassin’s Creed II stands out alone in the white looking intense.  I also like how there is minimal text used, allowing the page to capture one main article but still mentioning 2 others at the top above the magazine name, above the white space and not distracting one’s eye from the image.  I also love how they mixed in grey into the white space, helping the page keep from looking bland.

As for my own personal magazine cover that I will be making, I feel that I will also make a video game magazine.  The name will be HUD.  HUD is a crucial part of many video games and stands for Head’s Up Display.

Josh McAdams’ Infographics.

I chose these two graphs because they instantly catch the eye as you pass by browsing on websites and such.  The first looks like an informative timeline of cars in the style that everyone can relate to, a board game.  With sleek design and good but not overwhelming color or variation of color, the artist manages to attract attention to and inform the viewer.  The second infograph is much less informative but equally attention grabbing!  It is a play on a pie graph using a pie and the variation of colors to represent pie eaten, and the amount of pie remaining.  I found it hilarious and ingenious despite not very useful.
