michele aweeky — magazine spread

Here’s my layout, a week early, because I thought it was due today and worked on it for hours yesterday to get it done before I realized the due date was the 13th. Oh well.

The magazine cover I made was for a travel magazine, which I would not have picked if I had known we’d need all of our own photos for our magazine spread. So, I tried to make it work. I took a bunch of pictures over the weekend of my friends making S’mores in my friend’s backyard and turned it into ‘The Camping Chronicles’. I thought that subject was pretty fitting for a travel magazine.

I’ve used InDesign a lot in the past, so I didn’t think I’d have a lot of trouble doing this. Though working with the program wasn’t difficult, absolute creative freedom really gave me trouble. I found that being given a few requirements and told ‘go’ can be a lot harder than you’d think it’d be. But once I had a rough draft of where I wanted things to be, I think it fell into place nicely.

I tried using colors that went well together but also didn’t distract too much from the photos, because ultimately that is what you want your readers focusing on.
